Match Results

FRIDLEY, Minn. – Northwestern College ran into the College of St. Scholastica on Tuesday afternoon, with the Saints halting the Eagles' five-match winning streak after a 6-3 final score.

NWC was the team that took the early lead after the Eagles won two of the three doubles matches. Megan Johnson (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing) and Kelly Johnson (Annandale, Minn./Annandale) teamed up at No. 1 doubles to beat Hillary Bungarden and Rachael Zwiener 9-7 while Northwestern's Amber Gallaway (Annandale, Minn./Annandale) and Rachel Smith (St. Cloud, Minn./Bemidji) defeated Alexis Gunderson and Allie Carlson 8-6 on the next court over.

St. Scholastica made a comeback and more in singles play though, winning five of the six individual matches to take the team match. Megan Johnson (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing) won her match at No. 1 singles by a 6-2, 6-3 score, but it was a struggle for the rest of Northwestern's singles players. Gallaway took her No. 4 singles match to overtime before losing to Cortne Solberg 6-3, 3-6, 1-0 (10-8).

Following the loss, Northwestern drops to 8-9 overall and 5-1 in UMAC play. The Eagles will have another shot at St. Scholastica on April 28 in Duluth. Northwestern, however, will shift its immediate attention to Thursday of this week, when the Eagles will head west to face another UMAC opponent in the University of Minnesota Morris for a 3 p.m. match.
