Match Results

MINNEAPOLIS -- Northwestern College started its UMAC schedule off on the right foot, handing North Central University a 9-0 loss at the Baseline Tennis Center on Monday night.

The freshman No. 1 doubles tandem of Megan Johnson (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing) and Kelly Johnson (Annandale, Minn./Annandale) kicked off the evening with an 8-0 win over Saide Danzinger and Leah Kacvinsky, setting the tone for their teammates. The Eagles' Amy Knight (Fort Dodge, Iowa/Fort Dodge) and Chelsey Fiecke (Ham Lake, Minn./Blaine) also posted a victory at No. 2 doubles, beating Grace Chambers and Paige Trekell 8-1.

Heading into singles action with a 3-0 lead, Northwestern swept all but one game of all six singles matches. Both Johnson's won easily at 6-0, 6-0, as did Amber Gallaway (Annandale, Minn./Annandale) and Rachel Smith (St. Cloud, Minn./Bemidji).

Now 4-8 overall and 1-0 in conference play, the Eagles won't have long to celebrate as Northwestern's UMAC top competitor in the College of St. Scholastica comes to Lifetime Fitness in Fridley for a big match on Thursday afternoon. Doubles matches will start at 3:30 p.m., followed by singles action.
