ST. PAUL – The Northwestern College women's tennis team earned its first victory of the 2012 season on Saturday. The Eagles earned a 7-2 win over Bemidji State University before suffering a 7-2 loss to Macalester College, all of which happened in the Scots' Leonard Center.

In the first match of the day, all three Northwestern doubles teams won, starting with the No. 1 doubles team of Megan Johnson (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing) and Kelly Johnson (Annandale, Minn./Annandale), who beat Kelli Christiansen and Britney Greenwaldt 8-2. Megan Johnson (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing) followed with her first collegiate win in singles action, defeating Greenwalt 6-1, 6-2. Kelly Johnson (Annandale, Minn./Annandale) followed in the same manner, handing Christiansen a 7-5, 6-1 loss. Amy Knight (Fort Dodge, Iowa/Fort Dodge) and Rachel Richter (Wadena, Minn./Wadena-Deer Creek) also picked up victories. Knight earned a 6-4, 7-5 win over Caley Westin while Richter beat Bri Rueter 8-3 in an eight-game pro set.

Two more Northwestern players picked up victories in the second match of the day against Macalester. Despite a 7-2 Scots victory, Amber Gallaway (Annandale, Minn./Annandale) and Chelsey Fiecke (Ham Lake, Minn./Blaine) earned wins against Sarah Couser and Kayleigh Roach. Fiecke's 6-4, 7-6 (7-5) win was her second of the season after she picked up a victory in Friday's match against Saint Mary's University.

Now 1-2 early in the campaign, Northwestern will have a full two weeks off before its next match on Feb. 18 against St. Catherine University in the Baseline Tennis Center on the University of Minnesota campus.
