ST. BONIFACIUS, Minn. – In an abbreviated football game on Saturday afternoon, Northwestern College claimed a 34-0 defeat over Crown College at Storm Field. With the scoreboard reading 34-0 in the Eagles' favor with 11 minutes left in the third quarter, the head coaches from each team each agreed to conclude the game following the fourth serious injury of the day on the field.
Major injuries on the field caused a stoppage in play four times throughout the contest, three of which required the attention of an ambulance. Shortly thereafter, both Northwestern Head Coach Kirk Talley and Crown Head Coach John Auer decided to end the game due to the mental and physical health of the players on both sidelines.
Northwestern improves to 6-1 overall with the win, improving to 5-0 in Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) play, while Crown falls to 2-5 overall and 1-4 in the UMAC. Next Saturday, the Eagles will host Martin Luther College in a 1 p.m. bout at Reynolds Field.
