Men's Tennis suffers loss in 2012 debut

Final Results

ST. PAUL -- The Northwestern College men's tennis team didn't start its 2012 campaign off in the way it wanted to, but several members made significant strides in Saturday's 9-0 loss to Macalester College.

With No. 1 singles player David Knight (Fort Dodge, Iowa/Fort Dodge) out for the day, Caleb Kauss (St. Paul, Minn./Harding) stepped up to face Macalester's Chris Fowler. Kauss lost his match 6-2, 6-3, as did Keagan Blancke (Elk River, Minn./Elk River), who rallied to force a second set tiebreaker before falling 6-0, 7-5 to Stephen Tyndel.

All of Northwestern's Nos. 4-6 singles players took their matches to super tiebreakers. Unfortunately for the Eagles, all three went Macalester's way. Perry Campbell defeated NWC's Philip Gudim (Becker, Minn./Home School) 4-6, 6-2, 10-6, Max Soghikian beat Agassi Mila (Coon Rapids, Minn./Coon Rapids) 6-0, 3-6, 10-5 and Kai Peterson outlasted Collin Henslee (Lincoln, Neb./Lincoln Christian) 5-7, 6-1, 10-8.

Macalester took all three doubles matches in 8-6, 8-2 and 8-1 fashion.

Northwestern will take two weeks off to practice before facing the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire on Feb. 11.
