Five-point day for Cleope lifts Eagles to second straight win

Box Score ST. PAUL – The Northwestern College women's soccer team won its second consecutive game on Friday, defeating North Central University (Minn.) 4-0 at Reynolds Field.  The Eagles received two goals from Lauren Cleope (Manila, Philippines/Faith Academy) (Manila, Philippines/Faith Academy) to solidify the victory.

The Eagles' first strike came in the 24th minute, when freshman Sarah Scinto (Rosemount, Minn./Rosemount) (Rosemount, Minn./Rosemount) scored her first collegiate goal on a short shot after getting past her defender on the left side. Rebekah Kirby (Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial) (Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial) earned an assist on the play.

Cleope then struck with two goals in less than two minutes. The sophomore's first goal came on a successful penalty kick at 49:32 [watch the PK here] before Cleope took a pass from Susan Scheil (Andover, Minn./Meadow Creek) on the right side to land a perfect shot in the top right hand corner of the goal in the 51st minute.

Cleope then received credit for an assist in the 53rd minute, sharing the ball with teammate Jenna Powers (Fairbanks, Alaska/West Valley) (Fairbanks, Alaska/West Valley) as the sophomore scored her second goal of 2011 on a two-on-one play.

Northwestern peppered the shots category with 31 shots in the game, 15 of which were on goal.  North Central countered with three shots and one on goal, which was saved by Eagles goalkeeper Tara Hanson (Andover, Minn./Meadow Creek Christian) (Andover, Minn./Meadow Creek).

Now 2-3 on the season, NWC opens UMAC play on Saturday evening against the University of Minnesota Morris at Mounds View High School. The game will be under the lights for a 7 p.m. kickoff.
