MORRIS, Minn. -- The Northwestern College men's tennis team finished its 2011 regular season on Tuesday with a convincing 9-0 victory over the Cougars of the University of Minnesota, Morris. The win was the Eagles' fourth in five matches and sends NWC into this weekend's UMAC Tournament with an 8-2 mark in conference play.
Northwestern's first five singles players all won in dominating fashion, posting 6-0, 6-0 scores over their opponents. The same was nearly true of the three doubles matches, as an 8-1 finish by the No. 1 doubles team of
Caleb Kauss (St. Paul, Minn./Harding) (St. Paul, Minn./Harding) and
Keagan Blancke (Elk River, Minn./Elk River) (Elk River, Minn./Elk River) was the only non-sweep.
Now 8-12 overall (8-2 UMAC), the Eagles will gear up for their season finale at the UMAC Postseason Tournament on Friday and Saturday. The event's venue, the Baseline Tennis Center in Minneapolis is a venue the Northwestern team knows well and the Eagles will bring their best. Doubles play will begin at 4 p.m. on Friday, followed by the first round of singles. The remaining matches will pick up at 9 a.m. on Saturday.
