DULUTH, Minn. -- The Northwestern College women's tennis team had a difficult time with UMAC regular season champion St. Scholastica on Saturday, falling 9-0.
The Nos. 1 and 2 doubles teams consisting of
Dana Smith (Ramsey, Minn./Anoka) (Anoka, Minn./Ramsey) and
Amy Knight (Fort Dodge, Iowa/Fort Dodge) (Fort Dodge, Iowa/Fort Dodge) and
Chelsey Fiecke (Ham Lake, Minn./Blaine) (Ham Lake, Minn./Blaine) and
Victoria Viggers (Norwalk, Iowa/Norwalk) (Norwalk, Iowa/Norwalk) each gave strong efforts in their contests, but lost 8-3 and 8-4, respectively. Heading into the singles matches down 3-0, Knight put up a fight against Danni Sonnenfeld at No. 2 singles before ultimately losing 6-4, 6-1. All five of the other Eagles singles players were only able to win one game on the day at Arrowhead Tennis Center.
NWC will play one more conference match on Tuesday at the University of Minnesota Morris before heading to the University of Minnesota's main campus in the Twin Cities to participate in the UMAC Championship on Friday and Saturday at the Baseline Tennis Center.
