Northwestern continues to improve their record after defeating North Central

By Kristina Siemens

MINNEAPOLIS – The Northwestern Women's tennis team continues to improve their record after a win against North Central University this past Wednesday at the Baseline Tennis Center. The Eagles, playing in a mixture of both rain and snow, defeated the Rams 8-1.

Dana Smith (Ramsey, Minn./Anoka) (Ramsey, Minn./Anoka), Northwestern's No. 1 singles player gave it her all in her match against North Central's Rachel Smith. After a huge comeback in the second set, the match came down to the super tiebreaker where Smith fell to her opponent, 3-6, 6-4, 10-3. Northwestern's No. 2 and No. 3 singles players, Amy Knight (Fort Dodge, Iowa/Fort Dodge) (Fort Dodge, Iowa/Fort Dodge) and Chelsey Fiecke (Ham Lake, Minn./Blaine) (Ham Lake, Minn./Blaine) both captured the win against their opponents with 6-2, 6-1 wins. Northwestern also captured the remaining three singles matches to go 5-1 in singles play.

In doubles play, Northwestern swept the board winning all three matches against North Central. This was the first time the Northwestern Women's tennis team has accomplished this feat this year. Needless to say, they were all very proud of that!

After braving the cold weather and nearly sweeping the meet, the Northwestern Women's tennis team, now 6-10 overall, aims to keep this confidence as they face their toughest conference opponents of the season, the Saint Scholastica Saints this Saturday in Duluth, Minn.
