FRIDLEY, Minn. -- The Northwestern College men's tennis team won its third straight UMAC contest on Tuesday, beating Martin Luther College 9-0 at Lifetime Fitness.
All six NWC singles players earned at least one 6-0 set in their individual matches. Keagen Blancke (Elk River, Minn./Elk River),
Josh Fread (Minneapolis, Minn./Osseo) (Minneapolis, Minn./Osseo) and
Jimmy Ekman (River Falls, Wis./River Falls) (River Falls, Wis./River Falls) all earned shutouts at Nos. 3, 5 and 6 singles.
After the No. 1 doubles team of
Caleb Kauss (St. Paul, Minn./Harding) (St. Paul, MInn./Harding) and Blancke defeated Martin Luther's Scott Henrich and Paul Koester 8-3, the Eagles Nos. 2 and 3 duos of
David Knight (Fort Dodge, Iowa/Fort Dodge) (Fort Dodge, Iowa/Fort Dodge) and
Josh Nelson (Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial) (Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial) and
Erik Starr (Buffalo, Minn./Buffalo) (Buffalo, Minn./Buffalo) and Fread swept their matches.
Now 5-11 overall and 5-1 in UMAC action, Northwestern will take its winning streak on the road on Thursday when the Eagles head to Morris, Minn. to face the University of Minnesota, Morris for a 3 p.m. match.
