WINONA, Minn. – The Northwestern College men's tennis team put up a fight against St. Mary's University this past Friday. The Eagles took three matches from the Cardinals but ultimately fell 6-3.
In singles play, Northwestern's No. 3,
Keagan Blancke (Elk River, Minn./Elk River) (Elk River, Minn./Elk River), and No. 5,
Josh Fread (Minneapolis, Minn./Osseo) (Minneapolis, Minn./Osseo), secured two of the three points for the Eagles after defeating their opponents 6-3, 6-4 and 6-1, 6-4 respectively.
David Knight (Fort Dodge, Iowa/Fort Dodge) (Fort Dodge, Iowa/Fort Dodge), Northwestern's No. 1 player fought hard in his match against St. Mary's Micheal Lunka but was defeated in the super tiebreaker 6-3, 7-6, 7-3.
Northwestern's doubles teams struggled in their matches against St. Mary's. However, Northwestern's No. 2 team Knight and
Josh Nelson (Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial) (Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial) defeated their opponents 8-6.
With the loss behind them and some skill gained, Northwestern, now 4-11 overall hopes to improve their record when they face Martin Luther this Tuesday, April 19 at 3:30 p.m. at the Lifetime Fitness Center in Fridley, Minn.
