Eagles regain footing with 8-1 win over North Central

Final Results

MINNEAPOLIS -- Northwestern earned its third victory of the 2011 season on Tuesday with an 8-1 win over North Central University at the Baseline Tennis Center on the campus of the University of Minnesota. The Eagles claimed wins in each match with the exception of No. 1 doubles.

Chelsey Fiecke (Ham Lake, Minn./Blaine) (Ham Lake, Minn./Blaine) and Victoria Viggers (Norwalk, Iowa/Norwalk) (Norwalk, Iowa/Norwalk) started the team off on the right foot with a convincing 8-0 win at No. 2 doubles over North Central's Rynae Nelson and Sadie Danzinger. Lael Sanny (Shoreview, Minn./Mounds View) (Shoreview, Minn./Mounds View) and Autumn Kampman (Waverly, Iowa/Waverly-Shell Rock) (Waverly, Iowa/Waverly-Shell Rock) followed with an 8-5 victory at No. 3 doubles.

In singles action, Viggers was once again victorious in the No. 4 spot, beating Danzinger in straight 6-0, 6-0 sets. Leah Hogle (Grundy Center, Iowa/Grundy-Center) (Eldora, Iowa/Grundy-Center) also took her No. 6 match in 6-0, 6-0 fashion over Sarah Hollingshead.

Now 3-11 overall and 3-2 in UMAC action, Northwestern will head southwest to Mankato on Thursday to face Bethany Lutheran College at 3 p.m.
