Northwestern's mens tennis team pushes on as they head to Hawaii

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. – The Northwestern men's tennis team faced a tough defeat in their match against University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire this past Saturday losing 9-0.

Northwestern struggled in singles play losing all six matches. Northwestern's No. 2 singles player, Keagan Blancke (Elk River, Minn./Elk River) (Elk River, Minn./Elk River) played hard and was able to win the second set but then lost the third set falling 6-2, 2-6,6-4. Caleb Kauss (St. Paul, Minn./Harding) (St. Paul, Minn./Harding), at Northwestern's No. 1 singles spot put up a fight in his match against Ben Robertson but lost 6-2, 6-3. Northwestern's No. 3 singles player, Josh Fread (Minneapolis, Minn./Osseo) (Minneapolis, Minn./Osseo) and No. 5 singles player, James Ekman (River Falls, Wis./River Falls) both fell to their opponents 6-0, 6-1.

Kauss and Blanke, at Northwestern's No. 1 doubles, held their own in their match against University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire's No. 1 doubles partners Chris Thornton and Ben Robertson but ultimately lost 9-8 (7-3). Northwestern's No. 2 and No. 3 doubles both fell 8-1, 8-2 respectively.

With some tough competition behind them and some tough competition ahead of them, the Northwestern men's tennis team (0-4) pushes on as they head to Hawaii for their spring break trip this next week. They will be facing Hawaii Pacific University on Friday, Mar. 4 in Kona, Hawaii.
