Northwestern Gains Confidence Against St. Kate's

MINNEAPOLIS – The Northwestern College women's tennis team showed some promise in their match against St. Kate's University this past Friday ultimately losing 7-2.

Amy Knight (Fort Dodge, Iowa/Fort Dodge) (Fort Dodge, Iowa/Fort Dodge) and Chelsey Fiecke (Ham Lake, Minn./Blaine) (Ham Lake, Minn./Blaine), at Northwestern's No. 2 and No. 3 singles, both clinched their wins in super tie breakers 1-6, 6-4, 10-4 and 6-4, 2-6, 10-8 respectively. Northwestern's No. 1 singles player, Dana Smith (Ramsey, Minn./Anoka) (Ramsey, Minn./Anoka) faced Lauren Beadnell of St. Kate's and lost 6-0, 6-3. Newcomer Leah Hogle (Grundy Center, Iowa/Grundy-Center) (Eldora, Iowa/Grundy-Center) made her first collegiate appearance at Northwestern's No. 4 singles spot and won a game before ultimately losing 6-1, 6-0.

In No. 1 and No. 2 doubles play, Northwestern's Dana Smith (Ramsey, Minn./Anoka) and Amy Knight (Fort Dodge, Iowa/Fort Dodge) along with Autumn Kampman (Waverly, Iowa/Waverly-Shell Rock) (Waverly, Iowa/Waverly-Shell Rock) and Victoria Viggers (Norwalk, Iowa/Norwalk) (Norwalk, Iowa/Norwalk) all fell to their opponents 8-1. At No. 3 doubles, Emily Hein (Montevideo, Minn./Montevideo) (Montevideo, Minn./Montevideo) and Leah Hogle (Grundy Center, Iowa/Grundy-Center) also fell to their opponents, 8-0.

With some confidence under their belt, the Eagles (0-3) will take on Northwestern College (Iowa), tomorrow Feb. 26 at the Baseline Tennis Center in Minneapolis.
