DULUTH, Minn. -- The Northwestern College men's basketball team shot 77 percent in the first half to outscore the College of St. Scholastica 48-14 in the first half before coasting to a 81-58 victory on Friday evening. With the win, the Eagles improved to 14-6 overall and 8-1 in UMAC action while extending their current streak to seven straight victories.
NWC started the game on a 20-4 run while making its initial six three-point attempts to set the tone early. After the lopsided halftime score, the Eagles never let the Saints back into the game.
After scoring a career-high 20 points on Tuesday night versus Crown College,
Lance Westberg (River Falls, Wis./River Falls) (River Falls, Wis./River Falls) followed with a 19-point performance, going 7-11 from the field in 22 minutes off of the bench.
Wade Chitwood (Grinnell, Iowa/Grinnell) (Grinnell, Iowa/Grinnell) followed with 16 points, making all four of his shots from behind the three-point arc. As a team, the Purple and Gold wrapped up their 40-minute contest at 61 percent shooting and 71 percent from downtown.
Brett Tester and Justin Perato led St. Scholastica (8-12, 5-4 UMAC) with nine points apiece. The Saints finished the game with a 37 percent shooting mark.
The Eagles will follow the south shore of Lake Superior for their 5 p.m. game at Northland College on Saturday. NWC remains in first place in the conference standings, but only by a game with the University of Minnesota, Morris lingering with a 7-2 UMAC record.
