Women's Tennis falls 8-1 to St. Mary's

LAKEVILLE, Minn.  – The Northwestern College women's tennis team was defeated in their second meet of the season this past Saturday by St. Mary's University 8-1.

Victoria Viggers (Norwalk, Iowa/Norwalk) (Norwalk, Iowa/Norwalk) boasted Northwestern's only win of the day by defeating St. Mary's Kristina Wahl 6-4, 6-3 in No. 5 singles. At No. 3 singles, Chelsey Fiecke (Ham Lake, Minn./Blaine) (Ham Lake, Minn. /Blaine) came close to winning the first set against Abby Voigt before falling 6-4, 6-1. Northwestern's No. 2 singles player, Amy Knight (Fort Dodge, Iowa/Fort Dodge) (Fort Dodge, Iowa/Fort Dodge) put up a fight in her match against Rebecca Snyder but ultimately lost 6-3, 6-0.

In doubles play, Northwestern struggled to win, losing 8-0 in all three matches.

The Eagles, now 0-2 early in the 2011 season will continue to improve before facing St. Catherine's University, on Friday, Feb. 25 and then Northwestern College (Iowa), on Saturday, Feb. 26 at the Baseline Tennis Center in Minneapolis.
