Final Results
ST. PAUL -- The Northwestern College women's tennis team had a rough outing to start the 2011 season, falling to Macalester College 9-0 on Saturday.
Chelsey Fiecke (Ham Lake, Minn./Blaine) (Ham Lake, Minn./Blaine) came close to winning her first set against Lauren Dutkiewicz before ultimately falling 7-6 (7-4), 6-2 in No. 3 singles. Above her, Dana Smith (Ramsey, Minn./Anoka) (Ramsey, Minn./Anoka) fell to Paige Schaefer in the No. 1 singles match 6-2, 6-1, while Amy Knight (Fort Dodge, Iowa/Fort Dodge) (Fort Dodge, Iowa/Fort Dodge) suffered a 6-2, 6-1 defeat to Abby Citrin at the No. 2 singles position.
Smith and Knight came close to winning their No. 1 doubles match before falling to Citrin and Courtney Olson 9-7. Northwestern's other two doubles teams lost 8-0 and 8-1.
The Eagles, now 0-1 early in the 2011 campaign, will hit the practice courts before playing again next Saturday, Feb. 19 against St. Mary's University (Minn.) at Lifetime Fitness in Lakeville, Minn. That match is scheduled to begin at 8 a.m.
