Women's Soccer season ends early after 2-0 loss to Minnesota Morris in UMAC Tournament

Box Score ST. PAUL -- The Northwestern College women's soccer season came to a close sooner than expected on Tuesday as the Eagles lost a 2-0 battle to the University of Minnesota Morris in the semifinal round of the UMAC Tournament.  NWC wasn't able to overcome a pair of first-half goals from the Cougars.

Rachel Berns scored an unassisted goal to put third seeded Morris on the board at the 31:31 mark of the first half, putting a dribbler past Northwestern goalkeeper Tara Hanson (Andover, Minn./Meadow Creek Christian) (Andover, Minn./Andover).  The Cougars' Taylor Meehan then scored an insurance goal for her team after flicking a pass from Berns into the back of the net.

Northwestern put on more pressure as the 90th minute came closer and closer in the second half, but the second seeded Eagles were unable to get much action in the box.  The Eagles were down before the game started as Lauren Cleope (Manila, Philippines/Faith Academy) (Manila, Philippines/Faith Academy), the team's second leading scorer, was unable to dress due to injury. Sarah Scinto (Rosemount, Minn./Rosemount) (Rosemount, Minn./Rosemount), another top goal scorer, saw limited action on Tuesday due to an injury of her own.

Rebekah Kirby (Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial) (Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial) had NWC's only shot on goal of the game while the Eagles were out-shot 14-4.  Kirby's career goals mark will stand at 61, keeping her tied with former teammate Kyrie Jorgenson for Northwestern's all-time goals record.

The Eagles finish their season at 11-7-1 overall after having gone 8-4-1 in UMAC action.
