Kirby's hat gets tricky in women's soccer win over Crown

Box Score ST. PAUL -- Rebekah Kirby (Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial) (Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial) is one goal away from hitting double figures this year after the senior scored three goals in Northwestern College's 5-0 win over Crown College on Friday afternoon at Reynolds Field.

Kirby scored Northwestern's first three goals of the game, including scores in the 26th and 34th minute to give the Eagles a 2-0 lead heading into halftime. Heidi Anderson (Cedar Falls, Iowa/Walnut Ridge Academy) (Cedar Falls, Iowa/Walnut Ridge Academy) earned an assist on Kirby's first goal of the game before Lyssa Hester (Mantorville, Minn./Kasson-Mantorville) (Mantorville, Minn./Kasson-Mantorville) assisted on the second goal of the day.

After the Eagles led 2-0 at halftime, Kirby continued her scoring spree, adding a third goal at the 58:26 mark. Kirby took a quick pass from Jenna Powers (Fairbanks, Alaska/West Valley) (Fairbakes, Aka./West Valley) before striking the ball to find the upper left corner of the goal.

Sara Kallhoff (Willmar, Minn./Willmar) (Willmar, Minn./Willmar) scored her first collegiate goal in the 67th minute, with Anderson recording a second assist on the day. Theresa Johnson (Minnetonka, Minn./Perpich Center for the Arts Ed.) (Minnetonka, Minn./Perpich Arts Ed.) wrapped things up with an unassisted insurance goal in the 82nd minute.

Northwestern dominated the competition, with the ball rarely crossing over into Crown's zone.  The Eagles held the Storm without a shot while kicking 21 of their own, 10 of which were on goal.  NWC had an 11-2 advantage in corner kicks.

The Purple and Gold (7-4, 5-1 UMAC) will quickly turn around and play again on Saturday against the same opponent in Crown. The only difference is that Saturday's game will take place on the Storm's home turf. Kickoff is set for 12 p.m.
