Box Score ST. PAUL -- Northwestern College cruised to a quick 3-0 defeat of Northland College on Thursday evening, kicking off the homecoming weekend with the team's 12th straight victory. NWC hit .322 en route to set wins of 25-17, 25-14, 25-19.
Chelsea Koth (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing) (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing) nearly posted as many kills as the entire Northland team with 16 kills, while the Lumberjacks collectively posted 19 kills throughout the three sets. Koth also hit .440 for the match while almost everyone in an Eagles uniform saw the court.
Krista Stoltz (Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial) (Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial) tallied 33 of NWC's 35 assists on the night.
Defensively, the Purple and Gold won the battle up front with seven blocks, five of which came off of the hands of
Jacki Smith (Roseville, Minn./Concordia Academy) (Shoreview, Minn./Concordia Academy).
Erin Roembke, Gabby Jukkala, and Tayler Viegut all had four kills for Northland, who is seeking its second win of the year at 1-16 (0-5 UMAC).
Now 18-2 overall and 6-0 in UMAC play, the Eagles will shift their focus to Friday evening, when Northwestern will host the College of St. Scholastica in the Ericksen Center. The 7 p.m. match, which will also feature a silent auction (read about the silent auction here), will be the Eagles' biggest contest yet this year.
