Box Score ST. PAUL -- Northwestern turned a 5-0 loss to St. Scholastica on Friday into a 5-0 victory over Northland College on Saturday to improve to 6-4 overall and 4-1 in UMAC play.
Five different Eagles scored in the game including
Lauren Cleope (Manila, Philippines/Faith Academy) (Manila, Philippines/Faith Academy) and
Rebekah Kirby (Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial) (Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial), who share the team lead with six goals apiece this season. Cleope's unassisted goal, which turned out to be the game-winner, came early at the 7:42 mark to give the Eagles a 1-0 lead.
Jenna Powers (Fairbanks, Alaska/West Valley) (Fairbanks, Alaska/West Valley) added a goal for Northwestern before halftime, giving the home team a 2-0 advantage.
Kirby's goal, which was unassisted, came in the 72
nd minute as the Eagles scored three times within 16 minutes. Powers struck again at the 80:46 mark, with Cleope earning the assist before
Theresa Johnson (Minnetonka, Minn./Perpich Center for the Arts Ed.) (Minnetonka, Minn./Perpich Center for the Arts) wrapped up the day with a goal in the 88
th minute.
Northwestern out-shot Northland 28-8 overall and 19-1 on goal.
Tara Hanson (Andover, Minn./Meadow Creek Christian) (Andover, Minn./Meadow Creek) worked all 90 minutes in goal for the Eagles to earn her third shutout of the year.
The Eagles will head back to the practice field before playing an exhibition game against the University of Minnesota club team at Reynolds Field at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 5.
