Women's Soccer drops late-season game to Northland

Box Score ASHLAND, Wis. – The Northwestern College women's soccer team had a rough outing on Friday afternoon, falling to Northland College 3-2 on the Lumberjills' home pitch.  Rebecca Kirby (Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial) tied the Eagles' all-time program record for career goals, scoring the 61st goal of her career in the 12th minute.

Kirby's goal tied the game at 1-1 after Northland's Natalie Absil put the home team up early in the 8th minute.  Ashley Runge then gave the Lumberjills a 2-1 advantage in the 17th minute, scoring off a Rebecca Lake corner kick.  NWC's Lauren Cleope (Manila, Philippines/Faith Academy) (Manila, Philippines/Faith Academy) equaled the score with a goal at the 23:45 mark before Lake scored on her own in the 27th minute.

After a flurry of goals filled the first half, neither team scored in the final 60 minutes of the game.  The Eagles only got six shots off throughout the entire game, three less than Northland's nine.  Tara Hanson (Andover, Minn./Meadow Creek Christian) (Andover, Minn./Meadow Creek) had three saves throughout the 90 minutes.

Northwestern, now 11-5-1 overall and 8-2-1 in UMAC play, will wrap up the regular season on Saturday against the College of St. Scholastica at the University of Minnesota Duluth's home field in Duluth. Game time is scheduled for 4 p.m.
