Eagles increase unbeaten streak to seven with 1-0 victory at Minnesota Morris

Box Score MORRIS, Minn. – Northwestern College took over sole ownership of first place in the Upper Midwest Athletics Conference (UMAC) standings after winning a 1-0 battle against the University of Minnesota Morris on Thursday afternoon.  Heidi Anderson (Cedar Falls, Iowa/Walnut Ridge Academy)'s (Cedar Falls, Iowa/Walnut Ridge Academy) unassisted goal off the corner was the difference-maker as the Eagles improved to 8-1-1 in conference action.

Anderson's goal came in the 78th minute, marking the second time this season that Northwestern scored the game-winning goal against the Cougars in the last 15 minutes.  The Eagles edged Morris 9-8 in shots, but most of the action took place in the middle of the field, which was evidenced by NWC's mere four shots on goal.

Northwestern currently sits atop the league standings with 25 points, but the Eagles have played two more UMAC games than the College of St. Scholastica, who is currently in second with 22 points.  The Saints, who will host NWC next Saturday, Oct. 29, beat the Purple and Gold at Reynolds Field earlier this season.

Fortunately for the Eagles, Northwestern (11-4-1 overall) gets the rest of the week off before practicing next week in preparation for back-to-back games against Northland College and St. Scholastica on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 28-30.  NWC hasn't been beaten in its last seven games.
