Volleyball hits 20-win mark in 3-0 win over Martin Luther

Box Score NEW ULM, Minn. – The Northwestern College volleyball team reached 20 wins faster than any team in Eagles history on Friday night, defeating Martin Luther College 3-0 (25-20, 25-20, 25-23).  NWC has won 14 straight matches, and will have an opportunity to push that streak to 15 with a 1 p.m. match at Bethany Lutheran College on Saturday afternoon.

The Purple and Gold hit .433 in the first set to start what turned out to be a .310 attacking percentage for the match as Northwestern posted 41 kills on the night, compared to 34 for Martin Luther.  Chelsea Koth (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing) (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing) turned in a sensational performance, netting 16 kills on 27 attempts to finish with a .370 mark while leading the team with seven defensive digs.  Cari Miller (West Des Moines, Iowa/Valley) (West Des Moines, Iowa/Valley) was NWC's second leading attacker with eight kills, while Courtney Jonas (Neenah, Wis./Valley Christian) (Neenah, Wis./Valley Christian) went of for seven kills in 14 attempts, turning in a .429 attacking percentage.

Krista Stoltz (Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial) (Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial) had 32 of Northwestern's 35 assists, averaging just under 11 per set while earning three kills herself.

Lexi Bertsch (Andover, Minn./Meadow Creek Christian) (Andover, Minn./Meadow Creek) was one of four Eagles who had at least five digs in the match while Jonas and Koth each had their hands on four blocks.

Rebecca Engelbrecht chimed in with 15 kills and a .423 hitting percentage for the Knights, who fall to 12-11 overall and 5-3 in UMAC play.

Now 20-2 overall, Northwestern is still perfect in the conference with an 8-0 record following the victory.  NWC will make the short trip over to Mankato, Minn. to face Bethany Lutheran at 1 p.m. on Saturday to wrap up the Fall Break weekend.
