After wrapping up UMAC play for the weekend, the Eagles drove up the road to St. Peter, Minn. to face Gustavus Adolphus in nonconference action. Northwestern finished off Gustavus in another grueling five-set match, taking the Gusties 19-25, 25-14, 26-28, 28-26, 15-10. Despite losing the first set, the Eagles were strong when they needed it most, finding nine kills on 20 attempts in the final set.

Koth and Sandstrom shined against Gustavus with 17 and 16 kills, respectively, while Courtney Jonas (Neenah, Wis./Valley Christian) (Neenah, Wis./Valley Christian) hit .385 to go with 11 kills in the match. Kostek's assist total topped 100 for the day as the senior posted 49 while NWC hit .191 as a team.

Several Eagles contributed to their team's success on defense. Korporal was once again strong with 26 digs, followed by King, Karrah Miller (Aurora, Neb./Nebraska Christian) (Aurora, Neb./Nebraska Christian) and Kostek, who all had 10 or more digs to their name. Jonas and King had a lot to do with Northwestern's seven team blocks.

Northwestern heads into another week of conference action at 8-9 overall, but more importantly 2-0 in UMAC play. The Eagles will host a pair of triangular matches next week, their first home contests of the season. NWC will welcome the University of Minnesota, Morris and Waldorf College on Thursday, Sept. 30 at 5 and 8 p.m. On Friday, Oct. 1, Presentation College and Macalester College will come to town for another triangular, with matches scheduled for 3, 5 and 7 p.m.
