Women's Soccer loses overtime battle with Minnesota-Morris

MORRIS, Minn. – The University of Minnesota-Morris handed the Northwestern College women's soccer team its first UMAC loss of the season as the Cougars scored an overtime goal to win 2-1 on Saturday afternoon. With the ball bouncing around in front of the net, Morris' Leah Parker put home the game-winner, sending the Eagles back to St. Paul  with a 1-1 record for the weekend.

Parker scored the first goal of the game as well, shooting past the Eagles' Tara Hanson (Andover, Minn./Meadow Creek Christian) (Andover, Minn./Meadow Creek Christian) off a rebound in the 75th minute. Northwestern came seconds away from losing the game in regulation until Lindsay Halvorsen (Elk River, Minn./Elk River) scored at the 89:57 mark after a taking a pass from Rebekah Kirby (Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial) (Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial).

Five minutes into overtime, Parker scored her second goal of the game to send the Eagles packing.

Northwestern and Minnesota-Morris each had 10 shots in the game while the Cougars held a 7-2 upper hand in corner kicks. Throughout the two periods of regulation and the additional time, Hanson recorded five saves for the Eagles.

The Eagles fall to 1-5 on the season and 1-1 in UMAC action. Northwestern will return to the pitch next Friday, Sept. 24 when it hosts Bethany Lutheran College at 2 p.m.
