NWC wins third straight UMAC match in women's tennis

MANKATO, Minn. -- Northwestern College won its third straight UMAC contest on Tuesday, defeating Bethany Lutheran College 7-2. All but one of the Eagles' singles players was victorious in Tuesday's match, while two of the three doubles teams also earned victories.

Johanna Alex (San Pedro, Calif./Homeschool) (San Pedro, Calif./Homeschool) kept Meaghan Dahlke at bay in the No. 2 singles match as she won 6-0, 6-1. Chelsey Fiecke (Ham Lake, Minn./Blaine) (Ham Lake, Minn./Blaine) had a similar outcome in her No. 6 singles match, defeating Alison Stavig 6-1, 6-2.

In doubles play, both of Northwestern's Nos. 1 and 2 teams won their matches. Alex and Rebecca Leland (Bricelyn, Minn./United South Central) (Bricelyn, Minn./United South Central) bested Elizabeth Kopacek and Rebecca Kopacek 8-3. Dana Smith (Ramsey, Minn./Anoka) (Ramsey, Minn./Anoka) and Amy Norgren (Duluth, Minn./Denfeld) (Duluth, Minn./Denfield) followed suit as the beat Dahlke and Madara Matveja 8-4.

Northwestern will wrap up its UMAC regular season with a match against North Central University on Thursday afternoon before preparing for next weekend's conference tournament, which will be held at the Baseline Tennis Center on the University of Minnesota campus.
