Eagles split matches on Saturday

DECORAH, Iowa -- The Northwestern College men's tennis team split a pair of Saturday matches, beating Buena Vista University 7-2 before falling to Luther College 2-7. The Eagles' Nos. 1 and 3 doubles teams were victorious in both matches.

Against Buena Vista, No. 1 singles player Caleb Kauss (St. Paul, Minn./Harding) (St. Paul, Minn./Harding) had no difficulty beating Remy Nshuti as he won 6-0, 6-0. NWC's Josh Fread (Minneapolis, Minn./Osseo) (Minneapolis, Minn./Osseo) was also victorious, defeating Dan Bell 6-1, 6-0.

Kauss and Jeremiah Schneck (Faribault, Minn./Faribault) (Faribault, Minn./Faribault) teamed up to beat Bell and Keifer Nevius in the No. 1 doubles match to prelude their 8-4 victory over Luther's Sean Brown and Jeffrey Rosner later on in the afternoon. The freshman combination of Derek Gee (Eagan, Minn./Homeschool) (Eagan, Minn./Homeschool) and Adam Nehl (Circle Pines, Minn./Centennial) (Circle Pines, Minn./Centennial) followed suite, handling Buena Vista's Christian Price and Eric Rodine 8-3 before claiming an 8-6 win over Luther's Zachary Kulzer and Andy Pack.

Dan Johnson (Fort Atkinson, Wis./Fort Atkinson) (Fort Atkinson, Wis./Fort Atkinson), who lost 6-0, 6-2 to his opponent from Buena Vista, nearly came back in his match against Luther's Jeffrey Rosner before losing 6-0, 7-5.

Northwestern will wrap up its regular season on Tuesday, April 27, when the Eagles travel to Mankato, Minn. to play Bethany Lutheran College. That match is scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m.
