Match Scoresheet

ARDEN HILLS, Minn. -- The Northwestern College women's tennis team extended its UMAC record to 6-2 in 2010 after defeating Martin Luther College 8-1 at Mounds View High School on Thursday evening. Several individual matches went into tiebreaker scenarios, but the Eagles pulled out their second straight conference victory.

Nos.1 and 2 singles players Rebecca Leland (Bricelyn, Minn./United South Central) (Bricelyn, Minn./United South Central) and Johanna Alex (San Pedro, Calif./Homeschool) (San Pedro, Calif./Homeschool) finished off their opponents from Martin Luther in quick fashion, winning 6-3, 6-3 and 6-0, 6-0. Amy Knight (Fort Dodge, Iowa/Fort Dodge) (Fort Dodge, Iowa/Fort Dodge) easily took care of Heidi Heckmann at the No. 4 singles position, winning 6-0 and 6-1.

After the Eagles' Nos. 1 and 2 doubles teams won 8-4 and 8-3, many fans had their eyes on the No. 3 doubles match, in which Northwestern's Rachel Richter (Wadena, Minn./Wadena-Deer Creek) (Wadena, Minn./Wadena-Deer Creek) and Chelsey Fiecke (Ham Lake, Minn./Blaine) (Ham Lake, Minn./Blaine) bested Lauren Gross and Michelle Hintz 9-7.

Following the victory, Northwestern will shift its focus to Saturday, April 24, when the Eagles travel to Decorah, Iowa to play Luther College. That match is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m.
