Men's Tennis wins third straight after 8-1 victory over Martin Luther

ARDEN HILLS, Minn. -- The Northwestern College men's tennis team won its third consecutive match on Thursday evening, handing Martin Luther College an 8-1 loss at Mounds View High School. The Eagles' only loss came at the No. 6 singles position, where Jay Werness (Farmington, Minn./Rosemount) (Farmington, Minn./Rosemount) battled back from a 6-1 first set before falling in two straight tiebreakers.

Caleb Kauss (St. Paul, Minn./Harding) (St. Paul, Minn./Harding) and Josh Fread (Minneapolis, Minn./Osseo) (Minneapolis, Minn./Osseo) had the best performances of the day for Northwestern, as the Nos. 1 and 3 singles players defeated their competition 6-2, 6-1 and 6-0, 6-2. Keagen Blancke (Elk River, Minn./Elk River) and Fread teamed up to shut out Ryan Obry and David Zuberbier 8-0 at No. 2 doubles.

With the win, Northwestern is 8-12 overall and 6-2 in UMAC play. The Eagles have just two conference matches remaining before the UMAC tournament on May 7-8. NWC will play a pair of nonconference matches this weekend when the team travels to Decorah, Iowa to play Luther College and Buena Vista University on Saturday, April 24.
