Eagles can't get over the hump in 7-2 loss to St. Scholastica

DULUTH, Minn. -- After four straight conference victories, the Northwestern College men's tennis team was defeated by 13-time UMAC champion College of St. Scholastica on Saturday. The Eagles won the No. 1 doubles and No. 1 singles matches, but the rest was all St. Scholastica in a 7-2 final score.

Caleb Kauss (St. Paul, Minn./Harding) (St. Paul, Minn./Harding) was a part of both wins, as he teamed up with Jeremiah Schneck (Faribault, Minn./Faribault) (Faribault, Minn.Faribault) to beat Dillon Sterle and Brendan Anderson 8-5 in doubles before handing Sterle a 6-0, 6-2 loss. Josh Fread (Minneapolis, Minn./Osseo) (Minneapolis, Minn./Osseo) gave the Saints' Kevin Hilpert a run for his money, but loss 10-7 in the super tiebreaker after coming back to win the second set 6-4. Fread was also nearly victorious in doubles action, as he and Keagen Blancke (Elk River, Minn./Elk River) were on the losing end of a 9-7 score against Jacob Engelstad and Tucker Combs.

Northwestern falls to 5-12 overall and 4-2 in UMAC play. The Eagles will next play on Tuesday, April 20, when they host Bethany Lutheran College at a site to be determined at 3 p.m.
