Women's Tennis wins fourth straight in 7-2 victory over Minnesota-Morris

MORRIS, Minn. – The Northwestern College women's tennis team has won its last four matches after defeating the University of Minnesota, Morris 7-2 on Thursday afternoon. With the win, the Eagles solidify their second-place spot in the UMAC standings. Northwestern will have a shot at redemption on Saturday when the team travels to Duluth, Minn. to take on first place College of St. Scholastica.

All three of coach John Sanny's doubles teams won in Thursday's contest, claiming 8-1, 8-3 and 8-2 victories. After her doubles match with Johanna Alex (San Pedro, Calif./Homeschool) (San Pedro, Calif./Homeschool), No. 1 singles player Rebecca Leland (Bricelyn, Minn./United South Central) (Bricelyn, Minn./United South Central) defeated Gabrielle Friends 6-2, 6-2. Alex did her part at No. 2 singles, taking down Preya Chunkapura 6-0, 6-0. Northwestern's other sweep came at No. 6 singles, where Chelsey Fiecke (Ham Lake, Minn./Blaine) (Ham Lake, Minn./Blaine) recorded a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Stephanie Kucala.

The Eagles are now 5-8 overall and 4-1 in UMAC competition while Minnesota-Morris falls to 1-6 overall and 1-4 in league play. Saturday's match against St. Scholastica is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.
