Men's Tennis victorious in Morris

MORRIS, Minn. – The Northwestern College men's tennis team won its fourth straight UMAC match on Thursday, handing the University of Minnesota, Morris a 7-2 loss. All three of Northwestern's doubles teams won, paving the way for four singles victories and an overall match victory.

Caleb Kauss (St. Paul, Minn./Harding) (St. Paul, Minn./Harding) and Jeremiah Schneck (Faribault, Minn./Faribault) (Faribault, Minn./Faribault) took down Geoffrey Giraud and Daniel Fragodt in the No. 1 doubles match by a score of 8-2. Josh Fread (Minneapolis, Minn./Osseo) (Minneapolis, Minn./Osseo) and Derek Gee (Eagan, Minn./Homeschool) (Eagan, Minn./Homeschool) were also victorious in the No. 2 doubles match, besting Chris Droske and Kevin Daly 8-3.

In singles action, Kauss defeated Giraud 6-3, 6-2. Fread and Gee also won their singles matches, defeating their opponents 6-2, 6-2 and 6-1, 7-5 in the Nos. 3 and 4 singles matches. After winning the first set at No. 6 singles 6-2, Adam Nehl (Circle Pines, Minn./Centennial) (Circle Pines, Minn./Centennial) fought back from a 2-6 set loss to win the super tiebreaker 10-7 to claim the match.

Northwestern, now 4-1 in UMAC play and 5-11 overall, will get another shot at the conference leader, the College of St. Scholastica, on Saturday when the Eagles travel to Duluth on Saturday, April 17. The match is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.
