St. Mary's deals Eagles 9-0 loss

WINONA, Minn. – The first win of the 2010 season is still in the eyes of the Eagle women's tennis team as St. Mary's University dealt Northwestern a 9-0 loss on Friday. Following the loss, NWC is 0-4 in 2010. St. Mary's improves to 1-1 on the season.

Northwestern's No. 1 singles player Rebecca Leland (Bricelyn, Minn./United South Central) () gave St. Mary's' Bailey Edwards a run for her money in their first set, but after a 6-4 loss, Leland fell 6-0 in the second set. Unfortunately for the Eagles, Leland took the most games out of any NWC singles player in the six singles matches.

In doubles play, Amy Knight (Fort Dodge, Iowa/Fort Dodge) (Fort Dodge, Iowa/Fort Dodge) and Victoria Viggers (Norwalk, Iowa/Norwalk) (Norwalk, Iowa/Norwalk) did the best of the Eagles' three teams, losing to St. Mary's Abby Voight and Andrea Allis 8-5 in the No. 2 doubles match.

Northwestern won't have to wait long to try again for the first win of 2010, as the Eagles will play St. Catherine University in less than 24 hours in St. Paul.
