ST. PAUL – Northwestern College fell short of its bid for the first win of the 2010 season on Friday, as the Eagle women's tennis team lost to Hamline University 7-2. The Eagles are now 0-3 on the young season while Hamilne evens its record at 2-2.

Dana Smith (Ramsey, Minn./Anoka) (Ramsey, Minn./Anoka) and Amy Knight (Fort Dodge, Iowa/Fort Dodge) (Fort Dodge, Iowa/Fort Dodge), who had the best performances in Northwestern's match last Saturday at Concordia-Moorhead, won their matches on Friday night. Smith, playing in the No. 2 singles position, bested Nora McGraw 6-4, 6-4. Knight outlasted Hamline's Kristen Kiemele 7-6 (7-0), 2-6, 10-5.

After losing the first set 6-2, Victoria Viggers (Norwalk, Iowa/Norwalk) (Norwalk, Iowa/Norwalk) made a comeback in her singles match before losing the second match in a 7-5 tiebreaker.

Knight and her partner Chelsey Fiecke (Ham Lake, Minn./Blaine) came the closest to winning their doubles match, losing to their opponents from down the road 8-4.

The Eagles will continue to travel throughout the state of Minnesota for departing for Hilton Head, S.C. for their annual spring trip. Next up for NWC is St. Mary's University in Winona, Minn. on Friday, Feb. 26.
