Women's Tennis loses first match of 2010 season to Macalester

ST. PAUL -- The Northwestern College women's tennis team started its 2010 campaign on Saturday, losing a 9-0 match to Macalester College in the school's Leonard Center. The Eagles battled hard in the match, but the Scots started their season with a 1-0 record.

Northwestern's Nos. 5 and 6 singles players in Amy Norgren (Duluth, Minn./Denfeld) (Duluth, Minn./Denfield) and Victoria Viggers (Norwalk, Iowa/Norwalk) (Norwalk, Iowa/Norwalk) gave their opponents the best competition. Norgren lost a pair of 6-1, 7-5 sets to Louise Dickson, while Viggers lost 6-4, 6-4 to Macalester's Lucy Miner.

The Eagles' No. 2 doubles team of Dana Smith (Ramsey, Minn./Anoka) (Ramsey, Minn./Anoka) and Amy Knight (Fort Dodge, Iowa/Fort Dodge) (Fort Dodge, Iowa/Fort Dodge) came the closest to a victory, losing 8-5 to their opponents from down Snelling Avenue.

Northwestern will try and pick up its first win of the season next Saturday, Feb. 13, when the Eagles play Concordia College in Moorhead, Minn.
