ST. PAUL -- The Northwestern College men's tennis team kicked off its 2010 season on Saturday, taking losses from Macalester and Cornell Colleges at Macalester's Leonard Center. Keagen Blancke (Elk River, Minn./Elk River) was the only Eagle to record a win in his individual competition, besting Cornell's Brandon Wolff 6-2, 6-2.

Joshua Fread (Minneapolis, Minn./Osseo) gave Cornell's John Mineck a run for his money in their No. 3 singles match. After Mineck won the first set 6-2, Fread forced his opponent into a tiebreaker in the second set before Mineck won 7-6 (7-2).

All three of the Eagles' doubles teams lost 8-3 to their opponents across the court from Cornell.

Against host-Macalester, Blancke posed the biggest threat for Northwestern, but lost to Titus Levy 6-3, 6-3. The Eagles' No. 1 doubles team in Jeremiah Schneck (Faribault, Minn./Faribault) (Faribault, Minn./Faribault) and Blancke gave their opponents trouble before losing 8-5.

The Eagles begin their season at 0-2 and will try and record their 2010 campaign's first win next Saturday, when they travel to Moorhead, Minn. to face Concordia College.
