No Storm here: Eagles score seven goals in shutout victory over Crown

ST. BONIFACIUS, Minn. -- Six different players scored as Northwestern College left Crown College with a 7-0 victory on Tuesday afternoon.  The Eagles out-shot their opponents 53-1 en route to the lopsided win.

Rebekah Kirby (Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial) (Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial) scored the first of her two goals in the game at the 30:20 mark, sparking an offensive burst from Northwestern.  Lindsay Halverson (Elk River, Minn./Elk River) followed with the Eagles' second goal three minutes later after receiving a pass from Jenna Powers (Fairbanks, Alaska/West Valley) (Fairbanks, Alaska/West Valley) in the box.  With less than 30 seconds to go in the first half, Katy Hoppe (Amery, Wis./Amery) (Amery, Wis./Amery) scored an unassisted goal to improve NWC's lead to 3-0 at the halfway point.

Kyrie Jorgenson (Decorah, Iowa/Decorah) (Decorah, Iowa/Decorah) scored off of a rebound to put her name in the box score in the game's 47th minute to increase the advantage to 4-0.  24 minutes later, the Eagles scored three more goals, courtsey of Kirby, Samm Ellingson (Apple Valley, Minn./Rosemount) (Apple Valley, Minn./Rosemount) and Salem Weslund (River Falls, Wis./Homeschooled) (River Falls, Wis./Home School) in seven minutes to finish the game with a 7-0 victory.
28 of Northwestern's 53 shots were on goal including seven from Kirby alone.  The Eagles' Tara Hanson (Andover, Minn./Meadow Creek Christian) (Andover, Minn./Meadow Creek) had one save to earn the shutout while Crown's Alyssa Hiebert had 21 saves in 90 minutes.

NWC, who now stands at 5-6 overall and 5-2 in UMAC action, will continue its league schedule this weekend.  The Eagles will play Martin Luther College in New Ulm, Minn. on Friday at 3:30 before making the short drive to Mankato, Minn., where Northwestern will face Bethany Lutheran College on Saturday at 2 p.m.
