Women's Soccer falls at St. Scholastica 2-0

Box Score

DULUTH, Minn. -- The Northwestern College women's soccer team is still in the hunt for its second win of the season after losing to the College of St. Scholastica 2-0 on Friday afternoon. A pair of goals from the Saints within the game's first 21 minutes put the Eagles behind the 8-ball early and NWC was shutout in its first conference game of the weekend.

St. Scholastica's Shannon Carlson scored her fifth goal of the season at the 13-minute mark to give the Saints a 1-0 lead. Seven minutes later, Taylor Cunningham put the home team ahead 2-0 after taking passes from Carlson and Kallie Thomas.

Despite a host of shots from both sides of the field, either team was able to find the back of the net in the remaining 70 minutes of the game, and St. Scholastica held on to the 2-0 final margin.

Heidi Anderson (Cedar Falls, Iowa/Walnut Ridge Academy) (Cedar Falls, Iowa/Walnut Ridge) had two shots on goal for the Eagles, while Rebekah Kirby (Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial) (Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial) had one, but none of them beat the Saints' Bailey Mahlum. On the other side of the pitch, Northwestern's Tara Hanson (Andover, Minn./Meadow Creek Christian) (Andover, Minn./Meadow Creek) yielded two goals amidst seven saves.

Northwestern falls to 1-6 on the season and 1-2 in UMAC play after the loss, while St. Scholastica improves to 5-4-1 (5-0-1 UMAC). The Eagles will travel east to Ashland, Wis. to play Northland College in a 12 p.m. game on Saturday before returning home.
