Eagles regain share of UMAC lead with 78-63 win at Crown

Box Score

ST. BONIFACIUS, Minn. -- The Northwestern College men's basketball team kept pace to remain in a tie for first place in the UMAC standings after a bruising 78-63 win over Crown College on Saturday evening. The Eagles led by as much as 29 in a game that saw NWC boast a 20-point advantage in points in the paint and a 27-5 upper hand in points off turnovers.

Northwestern out-rebounded Crown 47-34, including a 14-6 advantage on the offensive glass. If it weren't for their three-point shooting woes, the Eagles would have showcased a much better overall shooting percentage. Instead, NWC settled for a 45 percent rate from the field. On the other side of the court, the Storm drained 56 percent of their 18 attempts from downtown to minimize Northwestern's lead down the stretch.

Four players in a purple Northwestern uniform hit double-digit points in the game. Freshman Robbie Anderstrom (Woodbury, Minn./New Life Academy) (Woodbury, Minn./New Life Academy) led the team with 17 points and grabbed seven rebounds in just 17 minutes. Anderstrom's scoring, most of which came in the paint, was the result of a 7-10 shooting effort. Brian Lecheler (Abbotsford, Wis./Abbotsford) (Abbotsford, Wis./Abbotsford) contributed a 5-7 performance for 16 points while dishing out three assists in the win. Stephen Hanson (Plymouth, Minn./Maranatha) (Plymouth, Minn./Maranatha Christian Academy) (14 points) and Reid Berens (Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial) (Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial) (12) rounded out the Eagles' top four scorers.

Gabe Jefferson (Lincoln, Neb./Lincoln Southeast) (Lincoln, Neb./Lincoln Southeast) grabbed nine boards in the game, while point guard Eric Garst (Mesa, Ariz./Red Mountain) was able to record six rebounds for NWC.

With the win, Northwestern improves to 8-6 overall and 3-1 in UMAC play. Currently, the Eagles are tied atop the conference with Presentation College, whom NWC will host next Friday, Jan. 22. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 in the Ericksen Center.
