MINNEAPOLIS -- The Northwestern College volleyball team turned in a three-set win over Wisconsin-Stevens Point after falling to Wisconsin-Eau Claire 3-1 earlier in the day on Day 2 of the Augsburg College Tournament.

Continuing to play without their starting middle hitter in Sarah Whitmore (Prior Lake, MN/Prior Lake Christian) (Prior Lake, Minn./Prior Lake Christian), who is out with an injury, the Eagles won the first set against No. 20 Eau Claire before the Blugolds won Sets 2, 3 and 4 to take the match (20-25, 25-31, 25-13, 25-17).

Steph Koth (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing) (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing) tallied a match-high 12 kills for Northwestern, while Greta King (Willmar, Minn./Willmar) (Willmar, Minn./Willmar) added 11 kills on 19 attacks, which was a best for King in an Eagles' uniform after the sophomore transferred from Concordia-Moorhead this year.  Hillary Slagter (Prinsburg, Minn./Central Minnesota Christian) (Prinsburg, Minn./Central Minnesota Christian) paced NWC with 21 assists, while Danielle Rhodes (Iowa City, Iowa/City) (Iowa City, Iowa/City) led all players with 22 digs.

10 Northwestern players saw action in the team's second match of the day, as the Eagles beat Stevens Point 3-0 (25-15, 25-10, 25-13).  As a team, NWC had its best offensive performance of the 2009 season, hitting .338 to go with 12 blocks in the match.

Chelsea Koth (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing) (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing) had nine kills to lead Northwestern, while Elissa Sandstrom (Cloquet, Minn./Carlton) (Cloquet, Minn./Carlton) had six kills.  Sandstrom also had her hand in six blocks, three of which were solo and three of which were assisted.

Northwestern (3-4) will hit the gym on Monday for practice to prepare for another tournament on Sep. 18-19 at Simpson College in Indianola, Iowa.  The Eagles will have quite the challenge in front of them, as they will play 25th-ranked (NCAA) Simpson and Nebraska Wesleyan, a team that has made the NCAA tournament in each of the past five seasons, on Day 1 of the tournament.
