ST. PAUL—The Northwestern College (2-9 overall, 2-1 UMAC) men's tennis team recovered from its loss as the Eagles grabbed their second conference win with a 8-1 victory over Martin Luther College.
Both No. 1 singles Stephen Fread (Minneapolis, MN/Osseo High School) (Minneapolis, Minn./Osseo High School) and No. 4 singles Logan Fischer (Silver Bay, MN/Homeschool) (Silver Bay, Minn./Homeschool) were able to beat their counterparts in 6-2, 6-1 fashion along with No. 2 Jeremiah Schneck (Faribault, Minn./Faribault) (Fairbault, Minn./Fairbault High School) beat his opponent 6-4, 6-1. Playing No. 3 singles Joshua Fread (Minneapolis, Minn./Osseo High School) only gave up two games while No. 6 Jay Werness (Farmington, Minn./Rosemount) (Farmington, Minn./Rosemount) went to three sets with scores of 6-3, 3-6, and winning in the tiebreaker 12-10. The lone win for MLC was by singles player Ryan Obry.
Winning all of their doubles matches, No. 1 team Schneck and Stephen Fread (Minneapolis, MN/Osseo High School) won 9-8, 7-2 while Joshua Fread and Fischer won in 8-4 fashion and Werness and Ken Linhan (Andover, Minn./Andover High School) gave up six games, but took the win at 8-6.
The Eagles continue conference play on April 7 at Baseline Tennis Center in Minneapolis as they compete against North Central University.
