Eagles fall to St. Scholastica

OWATONNA, Minn. (March 28, 2009)—The Northwestern College women's tennis team played its first conference meet against the College of St. Scholastica, resulting in a 0-9 loss.

NWC's No. 1 singles Wendy Miller (Roseville, MN/Saint Joseph High School) (Roseville, Minn./St. Joseph) and No. 3 singles Johanna Alex (San Pedro, Calif./Homeschool) (Crete, Greece/Homeschooled) both took three games off of their opponents, ending with scores of 6-1, 6-2. Rebecca Leland (Bricelyn, Minn./United South Central) (Bricelyn, Minn./United South Central High School) stole two games off her counterpart but took the loss 6-0, 6-2.

Both No.1 doubles team Miller and Leland and No.3 doubles team Amy Norgren (Duluth, Minn./Denfeld) and Erica Abeler (Roseville, MN/Roseville High School) (Roseville, Minn./Roseville High School) won two games, but lost the set 8-2 while the No. 2 doubles team Alex and Dana Smith (Ramsey, Minn./Anoka) (Ramsey, Minn./Anoka High School) took a 8-1 loss.

Northwestern seeks its first conference victory as they will play Bethany Lutheran College in Mankato, Minn. on April 1 at 2 p.m.
