Women's Tennis goes 8-1 against Martin Luther

NEW ULM, Minn. – The Northwestern College women's tennis team improved its UMAC record to 5-2 on Thursday with a 7-2 victory over Martin Luther College. The Eagles lead Bethany Lutheran College by just a half of a match for second place in the UMAC standings.

Nos. 1 and 2 singles players Wendy Miller (Roseville, MN/Saint Joseph High School) (Roseville, Minn./St. Joseph) and Rebecca Leland (Bricelyn, Minn./United South Central) (Bricelyn, Minn./United South Central) each defeated their counterparts from Martin Luther in 6-0, 6-2 fashion, while NWC's Johanna Alex (San Pedro, Calif./Homeschool) (Creete, Greece/Homeschool) beat Hannah Janke 6-0, 6-1.

Miller and Alex were successful in the No. 1 doubles spot, defeating their opponents 8-3. Leland and doubles partner Dana Smith (Ramsey, Minn./Anoka) (Ramsey, Minn./Anoka) were also victorious, winning 8-1.

The Eagles, who are 8-9 overall this season, will play three matches within four days of one another, beginning with a match against North Central University on Saturday, April 25. That match, which will be played at Bethel University, is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m.
