Men's Tennis drops season-open to Concordia-Moorhead

FRIDLEY, Minn. (Feb. 6, 2009) –The Northwestern men's tennis team kicked off its 2009 season on Saturday against Concordia-Moorhead, resulting in a 0-9 defeat at Public Indoor Tennis.

Although the Eagles were unable to win any matches, Jeremiah Schneck (Faribault, Minn./Faribault) (Faribault, Minn./Faribault High School) took three games off his opponent in Chad Smith, finishing with a 6-1, 6-2 loss. Scheck, along with doubles partner Stephen Fread (Minneapolis, MN/Osseo High School) (Minneapolis, Minn./Osseo) fell behind Concordia's Matthew Edin and Kirby Johnson, eventually losing 8-3. The only other games taken in the match by Northwestern were from its No. 3 doubles team in Dan Johnson (Fort Atkinson, Wis./Fort Atkinson) (Fort Atkinson, WI/Fort Atkinson High School) and Jay Werness (Farmington, Minn./Rosemount) (Farmington, Minn./Rosemount). The pair won two games before suffering an 8-2 loss to David Bloomquist and Homuth.

The Eagles, who slip to 0-1 in the young season, will resume their schedule on Feb. 28, when they face off against Cornell College in St. Paul.
