Eagles Soar to Tourney Title

DE PERE, Wis. — For the second consecutive day, the Eagles found themselves in the win column, with a blistering strong shooting performance taking the title game of the Nicolet National Bank Holiday Tournament at Schuldes Sports Center on the campus of St. Norbert College, defeating Edgewood College 84-70.

Brian Lecheler (Abbotsford, Wis./Abbotsford) (Abbotsford, Wis./Abbotsford) was named the tournament MVP, scoring 14 in the title game and shooting 56 percent for the two game outing.  Joining him on the all-tournament team were sophomore Gabe Jefferson (Lincoln, Neb./Lincoln Southeast) (Lincoln, Neb./Lincoln Southeast) and senior Stephen Hanson (Plymouth, Minn./Maranatha) (Plymouth, Minn./Maranatha).  Hanson grabbed 18 rebounds over the two days and poured in 18 points in the championship contest.

Northwestern never trailed in the game, mounting as much as a 21 point lead in the first period on their way to scoring a season high 56 first half points on  22 of 32 shooting (69 percent). 

With the win, the Eagles climb to 6-6 overall (1-1 UMAC).  The next game for the Eagles will be on the road at UMAC conference opponent Martin Luther College on January 8.
