NWC bests King College to improve to 1-1 in NCCAA Tournament

NWC-King Box Score

KISSIMMEE, Fla. -- A second five-set match of the day didn't hinder the Northwestern College volleyball team in its 2 p.m. match with King College (Tenn.), as the Eagles hung on to beat their fifth-seeded opponents 3-2 (25-22, 17-25, 19-25, 25-18, 15-11) in the NCCAA National Tournament.  NWC, who is ranked fourth in the tournament, pulls even to finish Thursday's action at 1-1.  Northwestern will now get some much-needed rest before playing two more matches as pool play concludes on Friday.

Greta King (Willmar, Minn./Willmar) (Willmar, Minn./WIllmar) and Courtney Jonas (Neenah, Wis./Valley Christian) (Neenah, Wis./Valley Christian) paced the Eagles with 11 and 10 kills respectively.  Northwestern hit .135 as a team throughout the match.  A .275 attacking percentage in the fifth set helped the Eagles get over the hump while NWC held King to a .000 mark at the same time.

Kelsey Korporal (Sumner, Iowa/Sumner-Fredericksburg) (Sumner, Iowa/Sumner-Fredricksburg) was solid once again as the Eagles' libero, tallying 28 of the team's 82 digs in the match.  Steph Koth (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing) (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing) added 17 digs in the back row.

Sarah Whitmore (Prior Lake, MN/Prior Lake Christian) (Prior Lake, Minn./Prior Lake) had a team-high six blocks in the match.  As a team, Northwestern tallied 10 blocks overall.

The Eagles will be back in action at the Kissimmee Civic Center on Friday, facing Southeastern University at 12 p.m. and Mt. Vernon Nazarene University at 4 p.m.  All times are Eastern Standard Time (EST).  Both games can be watched live online courtesy of Webcast America here.
