Kirby, Jorgenson lift Eagles over Hamline

Box Score

ST. PAUL, Minn. -- The Northwestern College women's soccer team snapped its three game skid with a 2-0 win over Hamline University on Tuesday afternoon at Reynolds Field. Goals from Rebekah Kirby (Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial) (Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial) and Kyrie Jorgenson (Decorah, Iowa/Decorah) (Decorah, Iowa/Decorah) helped the Eagles improve their season record to 6-7-2.

Kirby's goal came 10 minutes into the game, as she took a pass from Anna Hilden (Minnetonka, Minn./Southwest Christian) (Minnetonka, Minn./Minnetonka) before finding the back of the net. After a 1-0 Eagles lead at halftime, Jorgenson added an insurance goal for NWC on a penalty kick at the 62:09 mark to account for the 2-0 final score.

Kirby's goal was her 16th of the season, while Jorgenson tallied Goal No. 8 on the year, leaving the junior just two goal shy of Cyri Johnson's (1999-2002) record of 45 goals in a career at Northwestern. Kirby is making a name for herself too, as she stands four goals away from Jorgenson's record of 20 goals in a season.

The Eagles, who have clinched a spot in the UMAC playoffs, have at least five games remaining this season. NWC's next contest will be on Friday afternoon when the Eagles host Bethany Lutheran College in a 1 p.m. affair.
