Women's Soccer on short side of 1-0 final against Northland

ARDEN HILLS, Minn. -- After battling to a double-overtime tie verses the College of St. Scholastica Friday, the Northwestern College women's soccer team was handed its first UMAC loss of the 2009 season by Northland College on Saturday. The Lumberjills defeated the Eagles 1-0 at Mounds View High School.

Following a scoreless first half, Northland's Melanie Rasor broke through NWC's defense and scored on goalkeeper Rhonda Morgan (Andover, Minn./Meadow Creek) (Andover, Minn./Meadow Creek) at the 77:40 mark, which snapped Morgan's hopes of back-to-back shutouts.

The Eagles were on the wrong side of a lopsided battle, as Northland had 5 shots compared to NWC's 0. Northland also had 11 corner kicks, opposed to Northwestern's 3.

NWC will look to put its first tally in the win column as they host Augsburg College on Tuesday, Sept. 22.
