Women's Soccer drops 3-1 contest to Northland

Box Score

ASHLAND, Wis. -- Northland College, the UMAC's current second place team, handed Northwestern a 3-1 loss on Friday afternoon, denying any chance of the Eagles reclaiming their second place finish from 2008. Despite outshooting the LumberJills, NWC gave up two unanswered goals in the loss.

Melanie Rasor scored the game's first goal in the 27th minute to put Northland up 1-0. Northwestern answered ten minutes later, as Rebekah Kirby (Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial) (Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial) found Kyrie Jorgenson (Decorah, Iowa/Decorah) (Decorah, Iowa/Decorah) for a goal to knot the score at 1-1. Not 90 seconds later, the LumberJills answered with another goal from Rasor on a penalty kick to give the home team a 2-1 lead at halftime.

Sarah Strobino scored an unassisted insurance goal in the game's 85th minute to seal the deal for Northland (11-1-1, 9-1-0 UMAC).

Northwestern's nine shots bested Northland's seven, while both teams were equal at two corner kicks apiece. Eagles' goalkeeper Rhonda Morgan (Andover, Minn./Meadow Creek) had a save while allowing the three Northland goals.

Northwestern (5-6-2, 5-2-2 UMAC) will hope to return to its winning ways on Saturday when it plays the College of St. Scholastica in Duluth, Minn. Kickoff is scheduled for 12 p.m.
